There are a number of studies on the nature of the effect of coffee on the body, depending on the method of preparation of the drink.
TSN talks about the results of one such study, informs UAINFO.org.
Coffee can have both positive and negative effects on the body. Norwegian scientists who have studied the effects of coffee on the body for more than 20 years and discovered the most harmful and most beneficial for health methods of its preparation tell us how the effect of coffee on the human body depends on the way it is prepared.
The research was conducted in the period from 1985 to 2003. 500,000 people aged 20 to 79 took part in the study. These were people who consumed coffee prepared in different ways. In addition to coffee habits, people's lifestyle, various factors affecting health, such as the presence of bad habits, weight and physical activity, were taken into account.
Employees of the University of Gothenburg concluded that there is a connection between coffee brewing methods, heart attacks and life expectancy.
According to the results of a published study, unfiltered coffee and coffee brewed simply in a cup were the most harmful. Unfiltered coffee contains a large number of substances (30 times more than in filtered coffee) that increase "bad" cholesterol.
And the most harmful coffee turned out to be an unfiltered drink, when the coffee grounds remain in hot water for a long time.
It turned out to be the most useful to drink filter coffee - coffee prepared by the method of one-time flow of hot water through a layer of ground coffee on the filter. According to the study, moderate consumption of such coffee reduces the risk of death from cardiovascular diseases. The lowest mortality among study participants was among those who drank one to four cups of filter coffee per day. In addition, drinking such coffee turned out to be even more useful than completely giving up the drink. As the study showed, drinking filter coffee reduced the risk of death from any cause by 15% compared to people who did not drink coffee at all. The authors of the published study suggest that such positive effects are due to the fact that coffee is rich in antioxidants.
Less healthy drinks than filtered coffee include espresso, cappuccino, Turkish coffee, and coffee brewed in a French press.
We will remind you that it is better not to drink a lot of coffee. Due to caffeine, which stimulates the nervous system, the consumption of coffee in large quantities can cause anxiety, tremors, increased blood pressure, rapid heartbeat. Among the negative consequences of coffee consumption is the fact that coffee helps to flush calcium, magnesium and potassium from the body. Due to its diuretic effect, coffee can lead to problems with the kidneys, and can form stones in them. Studies show that coffee increases the level of "bad" cholesterol in the blood.
Coffee is not recommended for pregnant women, people with gastrointestinal diseases, and even healthy people on an empty stomach because of the threat of gastritis. People suffering from insomnia, people with coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis, hypertensive people should not consume coffee.
