Few of us know that pecans (Brazil nuts) are a superfood. The researchers calculated that a person weighing about 59 kg should consume 22-25 pcs. of pecans a day to reap the health benefits.
This was the conclusion reached by researchers from the USA and Mexico, who conducted an experiment by introducing pecan nuts into the diet of mice, informs UAINFO.org with reference to RBC-Ukraine.
What did the experiment show?
The study was conducted by nutrition scientist Professor Luis Cisneros-Cevallos of Texas A&M University and his colleagues.
Scientists have found that nuts increase energy expenditure in rodents and reduce both dysbacteriosis (an imbalance of gut microbiota) and inflammation.
In fact, pecans appear to affect low-grade inflammation, which can lead to chronic inflammation and the development of a variety of common diseases.
According to the researchers, pecans should be considered a "superfood" that can be consumed alone, as an additional ingredient, or as part of a food supplement.
"Obesity and diabetes are on the rise in today's society around the world. The trend toward high-fat foods is one of the main causes, in addition to lifestyle and genetic predisposition. People are looking for healthier options, and we now believe that pecans are the a super product," said the professor.
What else are nuts useful for?
Of all the nuts, pecan is considered the most saturated with fat. Pecan is rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, and also contains trace elements: iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, zinc. Vitamins A and E are well absorbed from pecans because they are fat-soluble. They improve the condition of the skin, nails and hair.
