CHINA WAS COVERED BY A POWERFUL FLOOD: TENS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WERE IN DANGER

In China, heavy rains that raged for several days caused a large-scale flood. A natural disaster occurred in the province of Guangdong, the BBC writes.

Chinese state media have already reported that four people have died and 10 are missing. Several large rivers are known to have burst their banks, and authorities are closely monitoring the "dangerously high" water levels.

The flood happened in the most populous province of China - about 127 million people live there. The capital of Guangzhou province, as well as the smaller cities of Shaoguan and Heyuan, were the most affected by the elements.

According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, at least 110,000 people have been evacuated, and about 25,800 are in shelters.

Flights have been canceled and delayed at Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou due to persistent downpours. In at least three cities, schools were closed, dozens of everyday buildings were destroyed or damaged. According to the authorities, the direct economic losses amount to almost 140.6 million yuan ($19.8 million).

China's weather service warned that heavy rain would continue in Guangdong and coastal areas of neighboring Fujian until at least Tuesday. "Moderate to heavy" rain is expected in other parts of the country, including the capital, Beijing.
