The Pentagon is shifting additional resources to the Middle East region as Israel and the United States prepare for a possible Iranian attack on Israeli targets in the country and the wider region.
According to an anonymous US official, the move is aimed at "strengthening regional deterrence efforts and strengthening the protection of US troops."
The Pentagon is working to bolster air defenses for U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Syria, which have already been attacked more than 100 times by Iranian-backed proxy forces between October and February.
The United States does not expect Iran to attack American forces in retaliation, but will redeploy forces just in case.
Threat of Iranian attack on Israel
Let us recall that on April 1, Israel launched a missile attack on Damascus in Syria, as a result of which the Iranian consulate building was destroyed. The strike killed at least seven Iranians, including two generals.
Tehran blamed Tel Aviv for the attack and promised a “harsh” response. Israel, for its part, warned Iran of the consequences and announced increased readiness on the part of the IDF.
