Why you can't drink tea at night: an unexpected answer

Almost every drinker knows that you shouldn't drink coffee before going to bed. Therefore, many people prefer evening tea. But nutritionists are convinced that this is not a good idea either.

Just like coffee, tea contains caffeine, a natural stimulant of the nervous system. Yes, it is somewhat less: in coffee, about 160 mg per cup, in black tea - up to 80 mg, and in green tea - up to 45 mg. However, even this dose may be enough to prevent easy falling asleep.

In addition, the drink has a diuretic effect. A cup of tea drunk at night can make you wake up to go to the toilet. And even more than once.

Also, the content of tannins in tea prevents the proper absorption of iron. People with iron deficiency anemia especially suffer from this. And one of the manifestations of this condition is exactly problems with sleep.

Nevertheless, it is possible to choose a tea that does not have an excitatory effect. What's more, you can stop your choice on herbal tea, which will even help you fall asleep. First of all, it is chamomile tea or a drink based on lemongrass. Green tea can also be safe if it is not brewed strongly.

In any case, you should not drink tea immediately before going to bed. It is better to have tea together with dinner - 3-4 hours before going to bed.
