In the port of the German city of Rostock, customs officials detained the Atlantic Navigator II ship from the Russian Federation, which was carrying goods that are on the EU sanctions lists, writes the newspaper Ostsee Zeitung.
The Ports and Seamen's Office of Rostock said that due to the presence on board of goods prohibited for import into the EU, the ship received a customs order for detention. It is forbidden to leave the harbor. The ship was sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands.
The ship left St. Petersburg in early March and was detained in Rostock three weeks ago when it called into port due to a damaged propeller. According to sources, it was bound for the United States and was carrying wood and enriched uranium for nuclear power plants.
The total value of the ship's cargo is estimated at approximately 40 million euros.
There was also birch wood on board, supplied by the Sveza wood processing company. It is part of the Severstal holding of Russian businessman Oleksiy Mordashov, who has been subject to sanctions. In October 2022, he transferred a controlling stake in Sveza to the company's management.
