As a result of the flood that began in the border regions of the Russian Federation with Kazakhstan, the only Russian manufacturer of combat armored vehicles - "Kurganmashzavod", located in the city of Kurgan - may fall into the flood zone.

They note that although the water has not yet reached the city, the local authorities still call on the residents of the city to evacuate. Referring to the map of the city, the publication's specialists found out that the water level in the area where the "Kurganmashzavod" is located can rise by 12 meters.
According to local authorities, the water is now approaching the regional center. And in some districts near the city, the level of the Tobol River exceeded 10 meters. In the Kurgan itself, the water is currently at the level of 3.89 meters.
What is known about "Kurganmashzavod"?
This is the only enterprise in Russia that specializes in the production of armored combat vehicles, namely BMP-3 and BMD-4. The total area of the plant is 247 hectares. As of 2020, it employed more than 7,000 workers.
After the beginning of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the company found itself under international sanctions.
