New York and cities on the East Coast of the United States are assessing the effects of a rare earthquake near Lebanon, New Jersey. The 4.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 10:23 a.m. local time and was felt from Pennsylvania to Connecticut.


Officials are currently assessing the safety of infrastructure, and the US Geological Survey has recorded at least six aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 4.0.


In addition, the Statue of Liberty was observed shaking in New York, and workers and residents in several areas of the city reported strong vibrations.
