Russia lost 7% of oil refining capacity due to Ukrainian drone attacks - Reuters

At least seven Russian refineries shut down their oil refining capacity due to Ukrainian drone attacks in the first quarter of 2024. Reuters reports this with reference to its calculations.

According to the agency, seven oil refineries stopped processing capacity of 4.6 million tons of oil, or 7% of the total, due to drone attacks.

One of the last to stop capacity was Kuibyshev Oil Refinery JSC, located in Novokuybyshevsk, Samara Region.

Drones attacked this plant on the night of March 23. According to Reuters sources, after the attack, the plant stopped the operation of the CDU-5 oil refining unit, due to which the plant's capacity was halved.

According to the Financial Times, the United States of America called on Ukraine not to attack Russian oil refineries and other energy infrastructure, because they are worried that this could lead to higher energy prices and even greater escalation.

Advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Mikhail Podolyak, denies that official Washington is demanding that Ukraine stop attacks on Russia’s oil infrastructure.

According to Bloomberg, as a result of Ukrainian drone strikes, the capacity of Russian oil refineries (refineries) with a volume of 600 to 900 thousand barrels was disabled, which amounts to 10% to 15% of daily oil refining.

According to The Insider, in 2024 there were 15 drone attacks on 13 oil refineries in nine regions of the Russian Federation. Of these, eight facilities suffered significant damage.
