French authorities have launched a major police operation against drug trafficking in Marseille, located in the south of the country, with the aim of curbing a sharp rise in violence in recent years.
According to Euronews, between 700 and 1,000 police, gendarmes and customs officers are involved in the operation, aimed at suppressing the activities of drug traffickers and their clients in Marseille.
The day before, French President Emmanuel Macron said that this operation is intended to stop drug trafficking and ensure order in Marseille.
According to Euronews, the actions of the police have already led to the fact that drug traffickers began to migrate to other areas, in particular, to Belgium.
"I know that it is a relief for the residents of the neighborhoods - to see how the police conduct operations to combat drug crime - the mother of the victim, - But will everything be resolved in three weeks? Will this be enough? We are not sure about that."
