For the first time, German Air Force fighters intercepted Russian planes near the territorial waters of Latvia

German Eurofighter fighters intercepted Russian military aircraft near Latvian territorial waters for the first time.

This is reported by the Air Force of Latvia on its Facebook page.

The aircraft of the German Air Force were deployed from the Latvian military base "Lielvarde" for the interception on March 1 as part of the NATO air mission to protect the airspace of the Baltic countries.

"Patrolling of the NATO airspace is working at full strength, and the members of the Alliance can react immediately," Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds wrote on the X social network.

As ArmiyaInform reported, two French Mirage 2000-5 aircraft intercepted Russian Su-30 fighters and an An-72 transport aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
