The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan said that during the past day, for the first time in the last ten days, China sent eight balloons to the island, which flew near its northern part, where the Taiwanese capital city of Taipei is located.
The Ministry of Defense reports this in a daily report on the military activities of the People's Republic of China on the X social network, reports Ukrinform.
No Chinese probe has flown over the island, but one came within less than 75 kilometers (40 nautical miles) of its northern tip, home to the capital, Taipei.
All the balloons launched from the mainland moved at an altitude of 3.6 km to almost 8 km in an easterly direction near the northern part and gradually moved away from Taiwan, after which the observation of them ceased.
China began to actively launch aerial probes to Taiwan from November last year, without commenting on anything.
The purpose of these balls is unknown, but Western experts believe that they can perform surveillance and reconnaissance functions for the island.
Taiwan's military does not attempt to shoot down or otherwise counter the bullets and officially considers them weather probes. At the same time, Taipei claims that these aerial objects pose a threat to the safety of civil aviation and exert psychological pressure on the island's residents.
In addition, during the past day, 9 military aircraft and 8 warships of the Chinese army were spotted around the island, patrolling the air and sea space.
