The IPC report notes that the entire population of Gaza (2.23 million people) faces severe food shortages. Half of the region's population (1.11 million people) is expected to be critically food insecure from March to mid-July, as the conflict escalates and a possible offensive on the territory in Rafah occurs.
It is noted that in the southern areas of Gaza, the risk of famine is also predicted in the coming months in the "worst case scenario". Israel's offensive on the southernmost city of Rafah, according to the IPC, will only exacerbate the catastrophic level of hunger throughout the Gaza Strip.
