Suriname police found almost 600 kilograms of cocaine on a plane bound for Amsterdam

The police of the state of Suriname discovered almost 600 kilograms of cocaine in the plane of the Surinam Airways airline company, which was heading to Amsterdam.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to NOS.

"The Surinamese police found almost 600 kilograms of cocaine in a Surinam Airways plane bound for Amsterdam. "According to the data of the special anti-narcotics unit of the police, the narcotic substance was in seventeen boxes that were hidden in the lower part of the cabin," the message reads.

It is noted that Surinam Airways technicians received a message about a "malfunction" in the plane and conducted an inspection. After the discovery of the drugs, an international police interdiction team (BID) was called in.

The plane was detained for several hours due to drug detection, but eventually took off from Suriname International Airport.

A few days ago, the Netherlands and Suriname announced that they want to fight drug smuggling together. Customs officers of both countries will undergo training together and exchange information on smuggling methods.

Last year, the Netherlands seized 523 kilograms of drugs being transported from the state of Suriname. A year earlier it was 1187 kilograms.
