Canada will increase spending on the military: where the threat comes from

Canada will increase spending on its military.

This decision was influenced by: the war in Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East, as well as the "Arctic ambitions" of Russia and China. This was said by Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair at the annual Ottawa Conference on Security and Defense, Reuters reports.

"Canada must and will spend more on defense. We know we need to do much more," Blair said.

He added that the Arctic "is becoming more accessible and the geographical location no longer provides the security it used to be."

"Russia and China have Arctic ambitions, and they have serious consequences for Canada's security," the Minister of Defense emphasized.
