Joe Biden's meeting with Xi Jinping can be called an intermediate point in relations between Washington and Beijing. China, leading an axis of authoritarian countries, continues to move towards conflict with the free world. Xi's main goal was to gain some breathing space. And the fact that China will send new pandas to the United States, which Xi called “envoys of friendship between the Chinese and American people,” is just evidence of such agreements. However, in reality, there is an aggressive policy behind panda diplomacy. The managing partner of the National Anti-Crisis Group, political scientist Taras Zagorodny, spoke about this on Apostrophe TV.
Pandas and everything else are the outer shell of diplomacy, but we need to look at what is inside. Well, at one time the Chinese gave pandas to the Soviet Union. But after Stalin’s death, the Chinese established tense relations with the USSR, which resulted in a military confrontation on Damansky Island.
These pandas remind me of the bears during the 1980 Olympics in the Soviet Union. Then there was this affectionate symbol of a bear, at the same time the Soviet Union was destroying Afghanistan. Therefore, this is a purely external attribute of diplomacy, but should be looked at from the inside. For in politics the main thing is not what is said or what appears, but what is done.
China is trying to show that it is supposedly a gentle country that wants to coexist with others, but it is doing the opposite. At one time, Herbert McMaster, Trump's former national security adviser, clearly described in his book how China is siphoning technology from the United States, creating an entire system through various foundations and associations. Plus how China is building artificial islands in the South China Sea to claim these islands as Chinese territory. First, military bases are set up on these islands, after which the area around the islands is declared an exclusive economic zone of China. Thus, the Chinese want to turn the South China Sea into their inland sea. And we have already seen Chinese and Philippine warships collide.
Therefore, returning to pandas. Yes, it's beautiful, but the reality is different. This includes support for Russia - either through the hands of direct Chinese corporations, or through the hands of the DPRK, which is heavily influenced by Beijing. And without China’s permission, the DPRK would not transfer ammunition used at the front to the Russians.
And the fact that Biden called Xi Jinping a dictator a few hours after the meeting shows that Biden lives in a completely different reality, in value diplomacy. Biden expresses a public position that corresponds to the internal convictions of the American establishment. And this once again shows that there is a big divide between authoritarian countries and the countries of the free world. And therefore Biden acts in accordance with his beliefs and values, on which the United States was actually built.
China has no value diplomacy and they are ready to work with everyone - dictators, free countries, etc. This rift is palpable, and even American analysts suggest that a conflict with China is possible in 2027-30. China now needs a pause to rebuild its army, because they built almost everything on the basis of Soviet technologies. Now they see this difference and it takes them time. Therefore, Xi Jinping himself arrived in the United States for the first time since 2017.
China is also very concerned that Trump's arrival in the White House next year will have even worse consequences. Therefore, they are now trying to reach an agreement with the current administration conditionally so that Trump has minimal influence on US policy towards China. But I still think that everything is heading towards conflict. And now this situation reminds me of the situation that developed on the eve of the First World War, when the young German Empire believed that the world built by the French and British colonial empires was unfair to the Germans. As a result, a bloc emerged that initiated the First World War. Therefore, such risks are quite high now, and with a high degree of probability this conflict, unfortunately, will be realized.
Regarding the war in Ukraine
Nothing changed as a result of the negotiations. Moreover, it is beneficial for the Chinese to support Russia, because they create the maximum number of tension points for the United States, so that the Americans spend their resources there - in Ukraine, Israel. Now also North Korea, Philippines. All this is done to disperse the resources of the United States and its allies. And this is being done by other countries, and China seems to have nothing to do with it. As a result, China has the prerequisites to strike at the most unexpected moment.
We must understand what to do in such cases. Very turbulent times are coming and in the next 30 years we will see many regional conflicts of varying intensity, possibly large ones. And we need to arm ourselves, make our own missiles, our own military-industrial complex in order to be strong and less dependent on Western partners. We must be clear that US assistance may be reduced in volume due to the support of other American allies.
Therefore, only our own military-industrial complex is militarization, the owner of missile production. We have nothing to wait for, because the Russians are not standing still either. We need to be prepared for any scenario that will have a good or bad ending. But with our own weapons there will be a good ending for our country. And the more weapons we have, the less we will need to look towards our partners. In addition, they like to talk more with the strong and, as Al Capone said, you can achieve more with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word.
