The President of Lithuania: We must fight against the import of Russian grain

The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, said that he supports the proposals to ban the import of Russian grain, but he is not yet familiar with their specific content.

He said this during a press conference, reports "European Truth" with reference to LRT.

Nauseda said that Lithuanian farmers see a problem in the fact that Russian grain enters the territory of Lithuania, in particular the so-called "black" grain, which is not accounted for and which is simply smuggled in.

"Of course, this must be fought, and it is quite logical considering the role that this country plays in destabilizing the geopolitical situation in Europe. Therefore, I would welcome such proposals (to ban imports. - Ed.), of course, you should familiarize yourself with their specific content," the Lithuanian president noted.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk promised to appeal to the Polish Sejm regarding the introduction of sanctions against Russian and Belarusian agricultural products.

In February, the Latvian parliament adopted a temporary ban on the import of agricultural products from Russia and Belarus until at least July 2025. Latvia stated that this step is aimed at severing economic ties with aggressor countries and complements EU sanctions.
