The recipe for a healthy and happy life in retirement: doctors have revealed the secret

Retirement is a predictable event, so you can prepare for it in advance, because in this case, the risk of feeling lonely or falling into depression is significantly reduced.

This is stated in the Johns Hopkins Medicine article.

Today, for many people, retirement does not mean the end of life, but only the beginning of a new and interesting stage. Happiness and harmony in old age can be felt thanks to simple things: taking care of the body, healthy relationships and useful work.

Alicia Arbache, a geriatrician and doctor of medical sciences, explained what is needed to prevent retirement from becoming unpleasant and burdensome.

If you are used to working all your life, then having a lot of free time in retirement can make you feel useless and lower your self-esteem.

However, you should not sit at home all the time. Choose an activity that you like. For example, you can work part-time, volunteer, or organize a club based on your interests. Thanks to this, you will be able to be active and share your knowledge and skills for the benefit of yourself and others.

Maintain healthy relationships

If you stay at home more and more often, your relationship with loved ones may change. In order for the relationship to remain warm and friendly, try to discuss with loved ones how you plan to spend your free time, agree on the daily routine and household duties. In addition, build joint dreams and develop plans for their achievement.

Take care of health

We do not always pay due attention to our own health due to the modern frantic pace of life. Therefore, numerous disorders and diseases may occur in the body.

Retirement is exactly the time when you can plan a preventive examination with specialists and identify possible problems. Thanks to timely diagnosis of ailments and early treatment, complications can be avoided and well-being can be improved.

Retirement can be perceived in different ways, but thanks to certain preparations, this stage can give in old age freedom of choice, new impressions and a sense of harmony with oneself and the world.

Scientists have explained how cancer "zombie cells" come to life

Mutating cells can prevent cancer from spreading by putting themselves into a state of reduced activity called senescence. However, cancer genes can "take revenge" by revitalizing these cells so they can reproduce again.

The mechanism of regeneration of senescent cells, sometimes called "zombie cells", was only partially understood. Researchers from Rutgers School of Medicine (New Jersey, USA) traced this process in colorectal cancer cells, and believe it is similar to other types of tumors. Medical Xpress writes about it.

"As soon as a cell starts to become cancerous, it starts multiplying very quickly, and this causes senescence. However, when a cell senesces, it often starts to produce a certain protein that helps it get out of senescence," said the study's lead author Ricardo Ivan Martínez-Samudio.

"The next stage of research is to find out whether drugs can target this protein. We want to find a substance that will interact with it and prevent it from binding to other proteins so that these cells remain in a state of aging and do not multiply," said Martinez-Samudio.

The researchers began by studying the progression of cells cultured in petri dishes. They then confirmed their findings in tissues taken from real colon cancer patients.

Scientists have found out that the onset of aging and the exit from it are pre-coded and mediated by the same types of proteins.

The study identified POU2F2 as a critical anti-aging protein and showed its role in the development of rectal cancer. Overexpression and increased activity of POU2F2 are associated with inflammation and cell proliferation, as well as decreased patient survival.

POU2F2 is involved in the development of various types of cancer and may be a suitable drug target.

Any strategy to help prevent aging can help, experts say. A subset of the tissue samples showed gene signatures that kept cells in senescence rather than letting them slip away, and these patients were more likely to survive their cancer than patients whose cells avoided senescence.

The researchers traced the transition from cellular senescence to "awakening" using a technique called multi-ohm profiling, which allowed them to see which genes were turned on and off, and which proteins subsequently became more and more abundant.

Once this method showed that the AP1 transcription factors were particularly active before the cells escaped senescence, the researchers turned off the genes that make these proteins and found that the cells could no longer come back to life and begin to reproduce.

"The body protects itself against certain types of tumors by forcing the cells to completely destroy themselves, rather than downregulating before aging," Martinez-Samudio said.

"We're not entirely sure why this isn't a more common response—perhaps because the destruction of large numbers of continuous cells would create 'holes' in important tissues—but the body prefers aging rather than cell death as a defense against many solid tissue tumors, so we want the protection to work properly," he added.

Doctors named products that halve the risk of stroke

A stroke is a dangerous disease. Although age is a significant risk factor, lifestyle can also pose a threat. Doctors emphasize that some products can reduce the risk of stroke by 59%.

What food reduces the risk of stroke

Doctor Shirin Kassam states that approximately 90% of strokes are caused by atherosclerosis. In this disease, fatty plaques build up in the arteries, which can eventually cause a blockage and deprive the brain of blood supply, causing a stroke.

"We know a lot about stroke prevention because the same risk factors also cause heart attacks. Our dietary choices can help reduce these risk factors, such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and being overweight or obese." - says the doctor.

Instead of focusing on single foods, the expert recommends making sure your diet includes a variety of plant-based foods.

"A high intake of foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds can create a powerful combination that effectively prevents a variety of health problems," Kassam explains.

She also added that this happens because a plant-based diet is low in saturated fat and high in fiber, vitamins, minerals and anti-inflammatory compounds that help keep cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose at a healthy level.

In addition, this type of diet is also low in processed foods, which have previously been linked to various cardiovascular problems.

What research shows

According to the doctor, following a plant-based diet can reduce the risk of a life-threatening "medical emergency" by as much as 59%.

"A study from Taiwan, focusing on Buddhist volunteers, showed that those who followed a vegetarian diet could reduce the risk of ischemic stroke by 59%," says Kassam.

However, the doctor also noted that this is not an exact science and different studies often show different results.

"Studies show that eating approximately 85-90% plant-based foods is associated with improved health, including a reduced risk of stroke and its risk factors," the doctor emphasizes.

Why you can't drink tea at night: an unexpected answer

Almost every drinker knows that you shouldn't drink coffee before going to bed. Therefore, many people prefer evening tea. But nutritionists are convinced that this is not a good idea either.

Just like coffee, tea contains caffeine, a natural stimulant of the nervous system. Yes, it is somewhat less: in coffee, about 160 mg per cup, in black tea - up to 80 mg, and in green tea - up to 45 mg. However, even this dose may be enough to prevent easy falling asleep.

In addition, the drink has a diuretic effect. A cup of tea drunk at night can make you wake up to go to the toilet. And even more than once.

Also, the content of tannins in tea prevents the proper absorption of iron. People with iron deficiency anemia especially suffer from this. And one of the manifestations of this condition is exactly problems with sleep.

Nevertheless, it is possible to choose a tea that does not have an excitatory effect. What's more, you can stop your choice on herbal tea, which will even help you fall asleep. First of all, it is chamomile tea or a drink based on lemongrass. Green tea can also be safe if it is not brewed strongly.

In any case, you should not drink tea immediately before going to bed. It is better to have tea together with dinner - 3-4 hours before going to bed.

Do you need to eat soups? The answer of a gastroenterologist

Everyone is familiar with a variety of soups from childhood - borscht, buckwheat, vegetable soup, with dumplings. They are usually cooked in meat or vegetable broth. But are first courses really so useful and necessary for us?

Do you need to eat soup?

The doctor said that this is a matter of taste preferences of each family, but it is not a mandatory dish at all.

What are the requirements for first courses?

If you still cook the first, that is, the requirements for it:

Be sure to cook with high-quality fresh meat (veal, chicken, turkey, lean pork).

Be sure to drain the broth twice, because the meat may contain antibiotics, growth hormones, etc.

Soups should be thick, contain a lot of vegetables, eggs, sour cream, legumes.

Do not fry soups.

Be sure to serve another bowl of salad, because after all, these are liquid dishes and therefore will not provide "satiety" for a long time.

Serve with yesterday's bread, home-made crackers, it is especially suitable for mashed soups, be sure to try tomato soup, gazpacho, sometimes you can add lard to borscht, but in moderation.

Don't forget the fish chowder, my family loves salmon soup with cream.

Soups are delicious, but not necessary for a balanced diet

Named five unusual harbingers of problems with the heart and blood vessels

The surgeon described the numbness and poor appetite as non-obvious symptoms of heart problems.

Vascular surgeon Alan Davies told the Express about five symptoms that herald problems with the heart.

One of the most common unusual predictors of problems with the cardiovascular system, Davis called numbness of the limbs. Due to the narrowing of the blood vessels, it is more difficult to circulate, so the hands and feet become cold and numb, even when the person is generally warm. In particularly severe cases, the limbs may acquire a bluish or purple hue, the doctor explained.

As the next non-obvious symptom of developing cardiovascular pathology, Davis singled out problems with the digestive system, including poor appetite, frequent abdominal pain, diarrhea, and indigestion.

Also, according to Davis, due to impaired blood circulation, the hair bulbs on the legs are deprived of nutrients, which causes them to die, and, as a result, hair falls out.

In addition, leg ulcers are a sign of poor blood circulation, the surgeon emphasized. Usually, such wounds appear on the back of the leg, do not heal for a long time and can cause discomfort.

In conclusion, Davis called for caution in the case of memory problems and frequent dizziness, which appeared suddenly, because such problems occur due to chronic hypoxia of the brain due to poor blood circulation.

As we age, we wake up earlier: experts have explained why

There are many jokes about old people waking up before the sun rises, as well as teenagers' late-sleeping habits. It turns out that there is some truth in these jokes: the time when our body naturally falls asleep and wakes up is not only part of our genetics, but also part of the natural aging process, informs UAINFO.org with reference to TSN.

"Like most things that change with age, there's more than one reason, and they're all interconnected," said Cindy Lustig, a professor of psychology at the University of Michigan.

Experts analyzed the main reasons why this happens with age and what can be done to get a little more sleep. This was reported by Huffpost.

Like other aspects of our physical and mental health, the brain becomes less responsive as we age.

"It's likely that the connections in the brain aren't picking up ... and responding to incoming signals as well as they should because it's an aging brain," said Dr. Sairam Parthasarathy, director of the Center for Sleep and Circadian Sciences in the Department of Health Sciences. University of Arizona. These input signals include sunset, daylight, eating, and physical activity, which help determine what time of day we are in.

"All these factors are what we call time clocks, or they give the brain time," he said. In other words, they help the brain understand where it is in the 24-hour circadian rhythm.

So, for a young person, dinner time may help the brain understand that in a few hours it will be time to sleep, but for an elderly person, this connection may not occur.

The nerves that are supposed to give the brain time signals have undergone the same degeneration as the brain, Parthasarathy said. This inability to sense time cues is part of the reason why the elderly usually tire before their children or grandchildren. And, as a result, they wake up completely rested, and even earlier than others.

"Interestingly, one [reason] seems to be that the changes in vision that occur with age reduce the intensity of light stimulation that our brain receives, which plays an important role in 'setting' our circadian clock," she said. Lustig

Parthasarathy explained that this is especially true for people with cataracts, a common eye disease that affects more than 50 percent of Americans age 80 and older, according to the National Institutes of Health. Cataracts cause blurred vision, double vision, and general vision problems.

As less light enters the eyes due to vision problems caused by cataracts, the body begins to release melatonin (the sleep hormone) earlier than it should. In young people, melatonin levels "start to rise after the sun goes down," Parthasarathy said, so you usually feel tired a few hours after.

For people with cataracts, whose brains think the sunset is earlier, they perceive it to be earlier, causing them to tire earlier. And going to bed earlier means waking up earlier.

"There is some evidence that cataract surgery can help improve the quality and duration of sleep by helping these light signals pass," Lustig said.

Some tips to sleep better

According to Parthasarathy, if you have problems with this issue, you shouldn't listen to the advice to avoid screens and instead expose yourself to bright lights late at night. This could mean walking outside before the sun goes down, reading a book on a bright iPad, installing artificial light sources in your home, or watching TV on a bright screen.

Those bright lights will tell the brain that the sun hasn't set yet, causing melatonin production to be withheld, he said. To help yourself stay awake a little longer (and wake up a little later), Parthasarathy said you should try these things 30 to 60 minutes before sunset, depending on the time of year and where you live.

The exact amount of time you should be exposed to bright light can vary and may take a bit of trial and error, but he said you should aim for two hours of exposure — and of course keep the lights on after sunset.

Lustig added that you should avoid alcohol before bed — "while that nightcap may make you drowsy, it actually disrupts the quality of your sleep." Plus, she said, exercise can help you sleep better, and morning sun can help your circadian clock track sunrise and set alarms.

In general, changes in sleep patterns are a part of life. While some of these factors are out of your control, you can also counteract them with healthy habits so you can get the best rest possible.

Why it is risky to sleep naked: explanations of American doctors

How to sleep properly and what to wear to bed in general is a rather important question.

"The debate about whether or not to wear underwear is not supported by a lot of research," says Orange County, California urologist Dr. Aaron Spitz.

Dr. Sherry Ross, OB/GYN, says it really comes down to personal choice. "There is no right or wrong answer to whether you choose to sleep in underwear or not," she told HuffPost.

And while there's no scientific consensus on the matter, there are some factors to consider when deciding what's right for you.

You may want to wear underwear to bed if you have heavy vaginal discharge or are on your period: Sleeping in your underwear "may be the best way to prevent a messy night in the morning," says Ross.

On the other hand, men may experience discomfort, especially in their testicles, if they sleep commando, "due to the compression of the hips or the mattress as they toss and turn in their sleep," Spitz says.

Sleeping in underwear can also protect the urethra from irritation or infection, Spitz notes.

For example, "bed linens in hotels and friends' houses may be washed with detergents that can irritate the urethra in some people," he said. "Underwear, even loose-fitting, will act as a protective barrier for the urethra."

If you're going to sleep in underwear, choose soft, breathable materials like bamboo or cotton.

5 common myths about condoms that you need to stop believing

Condoms are one of the most popular methods of contraception in the world, but many people still believe in myths about them that can lead to unwanted consequences. We debunk five of the most common condom myths and help you figure out how to avoid mistakes and protect yourself and your partner.

The material was prepared by the team of the public union "Your Family Doctor"

Let's meet, I'm a condom. All the condoms in the world are starting to talk so that people understand us better and use them more effectively. I will not tell you who created me and how many failed attempts there were to make me - a modern condom - the hero of this article. Today I want to tell more about myself. People use me, but their perception of me does not always correspond to reality. I want to be more useful to humanity. So I will tell you about fakes related to me.

Myth 1. Condoms do not have an expiration date

You can listen to myths, but believe me, we - condoms - are not eternal. We are made of latex, which loses its elasticity and can tear. All condoms are divided into two categories: cheap and expensive. It is the price that decides our expiration date. Cheap ones can be stored for 2-3 years, expensive ones a little longer - 3-5.

Myth 2. Condoms are not always necessary

You've probably heard that you can't use a condom if you're taking hormonal contraceptives. This is a fake. Condoms should always be used, because they protect not only against unwanted pregnancy, but also against sexually transmitted infections. The causative agents of these diseases are found in biological fluids - saliva, blood and semen. They can get into any microcracks in your body and cause an infection. So a condom should be used during oral, vaginal and anal sex.

Fake 3. If there is trust, a condom is superfluous

There are pores in the skin, there are seasons, and some say there are micropores in the condom that allow the human immunodeficiency virus to pass through. But it is not so. We - condoms do not pass biological fluids, and therefore, infection in them. A condom is your armor. If it is used correctly, 99% protection against HIV is guaranteed. This has been proven by numerous studies. So don't be afraid to refuse intercourse if your partner doesn't want to use protection. In more than 70% of cases, HIV is transmitted through sex without a condom. Gender and type of sex do not matter. Annual free testing by a family doctor will help you find out your HIV status. More information about this can be found on the website of the "Your Family Doctor" social project.

Fake 4. Condoms are only for men, and you can open them anyway

There are male condoms, and there are female condoms. Men's are more popular. So they say that men should always have an element of protection at hand. Although in heterosexual contact the condom is put on by the man, in fact this product is necessary for both participants of the sexual act. Therefore, everyone who cares about their health should carry it with them.

One question is the presence of a condom, and another is how to open it? It's simple: don't open the packaging with your teeth, nails, scissors, knife or anything else - you risk accidentally tearing the condom and not even noticing it. And one more thing: use a new condom for every new sexual act.

Fake 5. A condom can be any and stored anywhere

A condom should always be nearby. But it should be stored in a dry place protected from sunlight. Therefore, pockets, purses, cosmetic bags will not fit. It is better to buy condoms in pharmacies and trusted stores. Uncertified products are risky to use.

Long cell phone conversations increase blood pressure, study finds

Chinese scientists have learned that talking on a mobile phone for 30 minutes or more per week is associated with an increased risk of hypertension.

They presented their findings in the European Heart Journal Digital Health.

Almost three-quarters of the world's population aged 10 and over have mobile phones. Approximately 1.3 billion people between the ages of 30 and 79 suffer from hypertension. High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart attack and stroke, which is the leading cause of premature death in the world.

Scientists from the National Center for Clinical Research on Kidney Diseases (China) decided to find out if there is a connection between hypertension and talking on a mobile phone. For this, they used data from the British Biobank, which included 212,046 people aged 37 to 73.

The researchers collected information about how often the subjects used mobile phones using a special program that takes into account the number of hours of mobile phone calls per week.

Adjustments were made for age, sex, body mass index, race, family history of hypertension, education, smoking status, blood cholesterol and glucose levels, kidney function, medication use, and other risk factors for high blood pressure.

The average age of the participants was 54 years, 62 percent of them were women, and 88 percent used mobile phones. Over 12 years of observation, 13,984 people developed hypertension. It turned out that those participants who talked on the phone for 30 minutes or more per week were 12 percent more likely to develop hypertension on average than those who spent less time on it.

Specifically, the scientists found out: a weekly conversation on the phone from 30 to 59 minutes increases the risk of developing hypertension by eight percent, one to three hours by 13, four to six hours by 16, and more than six hours by 25 percent. At the same time, the possibility of developing hypertension was higher in those participants who already had the disease in their family history.

The results were the same for both women and men.

There is no such thing as safe smoking: harm from hookah, which few people know about

Many Ukrainians consider hookah smoking safe and think that it is not harmful. This is not true at all.

The Public Health Center told Ukrainians about the risks of hookah smoking, which few people know about.

First, the World Health Organization reported that one session of hookah smoking causes the same damage as a hundred smoked cigarettes, because hookah is a tobacco product that contains nicotine.

A hookah smoker inhales 30-40 times more smoke than someone who smokes regular cigarettes.

Hookah flavorings (tobacco) are also designed to make it easier to inhale more smoke.

In addition, long-term use of hookah is directly related to nicotine addiction, which can cause the use of several tobacco products at the same time.

Remember that there is no such thing as safe smoking.

Everything was so simple: scientists found an antidote to the toxins of the pale toadstool

Pale toadstool (Amanita phalloides) is the most poisonous mushroom in the world. The search for an antidote to it has been going on for a long time, but Chinese scientists seem to have finally come close to the solution.

Pale toadstool poisoning, according to some data, is the cause of 90% of deaths due to mushroom consumption.

Chinese researchers used the CRISPR gene editing method to search for chemicals that could neutralize the poison of this mushroom.

They found that alpha-amanthine (the most potent toadstool venom toxin) has the greatest effect on the STT3B protein. The team set out to find a substance that could block the interaction between alpha-amantine and STT3B.

As a result of long experiments, they found a substance called indocyanine green (ICG).

This is a cyan dye that is used in medical diagnostics. It is used to determine cardiac output, liver function, hepatic and gastric blood flow, as well as for ophthalmic and cerebral angiography.

The scientists tested their hypothesis on mice and found that half of those poisoned with the poison of the pale toadstool survived after the infusion of indocyanine.

In the future, the researchers want to expand on their findings by verifying the safety and efficacy of ICG. If this happens, humanity will finally have an antidote to the poison of the most dangerous mushroom in the world.

It has been called the most harmful position for back health

According to the Daily Mail, posture correction expert James Leinhardt assures that sleeping on your stomach is the most harmful to your health.

Leinhardt urged people to stop sleeping in this position, especially with the knee pulled up to the stomach and the arms on either side of the pillow, because it seriously increases the stress on the whole body and especially on the back and neck.

“Lying in this position, you're not just turning your neck, you're twisting it. You're compressing the vertebrae, which gives you goosebumps and neck and back pain," explained the specialist.

As a healthier alternative to sleeping on your stomach, Leinhardt called the side position. At the same time, he recommended placing one pillow between the knees and pressing the second to the chest during the night. According to the specialist, this will avoid the usual turning over on the stomach in a dream and bending the leg at the knee.

It is recommended to use regularly: scientists named the most useful fruit

A recent study by a Japanese scientist from the University of Tokyo, Aike Arakelian, showed that the most useful fruit is kiwi.

The expert emphasized that it contains more vitamins and minerals than 27 other fruits that he and his team studied. At the same time, there are almost no calories in kiwi.

What is the benefit of kiwi? First of all, a large amount of dietary fiber, vitamins C and E, folic acid, antioxidants and other useful substances. Two medium servings of kiwi contain as much potassium as one banana, but almost no calories. Therefore, this fruit can be eaten by those who monitor their weight.

Due to such a special composition, kiwi is recommended to be eaten by the elderly. If you use it regularly, it will help strengthen bones and blood vessels, remove toxins from the body, and normalize digestion.

Kiwi also helps remove cholesterol from the body, normalize sleep, and strengthen the health of the skin and eyes.

Deadly storm has covered the center of the United States

A tornado left thousands without power in the US state of Oklahoma. At least 100 people across the state were injured.

The element took the lives of four people, including an infant, writes The Associated Press.

"The tornado started late Saturday night. The city of Sulfur, home to about 5,000 people, suffered the most damage, where the tornado destroyed many downtown buildings, overturned cars and buses, and tore roofs off homes within a 15-block radius. More than 20,000 people still remain without electricity," the report said.

According to Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, about 30 people were injured in Sulphur, including those who were inside the bar when the tornado struck.

Across the state, people were injured by debris.

The tornado swept through the center of the city, overturning cars and tearing roofs and walls from brick buildings. In the buildings that remained in place, windows and doors were shattered.

White House officials said President Joe Biden spoke with Governor Stitt on Sunday.

A string of deadly tornadoes has wreaked havoc across the central US since Friday. Another death was reported in Iowa on Sunday. A man there was seriously injured in Friday's tornado.

The deadly storm killed two people and damaged or destroyed more than 10 homes, according to Hughes County EMS. Another person died on a highway near Marietta in southern Oklahoma.

The heavy rains that came to Oklahoma with the tornado also caused dangerous flooding. Rising water levels in the lakes led to the closure of the National Recreation Area, where storms destroyed a footbridge.

On Sunday, Stitt issued a state of emergency in 12 counties due to the effects of the storm.

The trial of “citizens of the Reich” who planned a coup and alliance with Russia begins in Germany

The first of three trials related to the far-right conspiracy movement's planning of a coup begins today in Germany. Members of the movement reject post-war Germany, their goal was to negotiate a new treaty with the allies of World War II, in particular with Russia.

Suspected members of the so-called "Reichsbürger" (Reich Citizens) movement were allegedly planning to overthrow the German government.

A possible military branch of the group is due to appear in court in Stuttgart on April 29. The nine defendants are represented by 22 lawyers. The case involves more than 300 witnesses, including 270 police officers.

Ten leaders of the movement will be tried on May 21 in Frankfurt. Eight more suspected members of the organization will appear in court in Munich from June 18.

Uncovering the conspiracy

Police uncovered the plot during a series of nationwide raids on December 7, 2022.

About 25 people were arrested and are in custody awaiting future trials.

More than 380 firearms and about 150 thousand ammunition were confiscated from them.

The leader of the group is Henry XIII Prince Royce, a 72-year-old real estate agent from Frankfurt, a descendant of an aristocratic family. Supporters allegedly appointed him to the role of interim head of the German state.

The group is accused of planning to storm the German parliament and detain prominent politicians, notably Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock and conservative opposition leader Friedrich Merz.

Among the ringleaders is also Birgit Malsack-Winkmann, a judge and former representative of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the federal parliament. After the coup, she is supposed to become Minister of Justice.

Views of "Reich Citizens"

The conspirators disagree with the existence of post-war Germany, arguing that it was created and controlled by the Allied powers that won World War II.

Prince Royce and his fans believe that Germany is led by a "deep state" that plans to kill hundreds of children and teenagers. For example, the group believed that the floods in Germany's Ahr Valley in 2021 were an attempt to cover up murders that had already been committed by flooding old government bunkers. Royce's fans talked about 600 dead children.

Federal prosecutors allege the group was planning a violent coup and aimed to negotiate a new treaty with World War II allies, including Russia. Members of the group allegedly trained in the use of firearms and conducted reconnaissance missions in the Bundestag.

Scope of distribution

German intelligence services estimate that the Reichsbürger movement has about 20,000 people in Germany, of whom 2,300 are described as "ready to use violence." Common to them are xenophobic and anti-Semitic beliefs. They reject democracy and have pro-monarchy views.

Taurine, found in energy drinks, meat, milk and fish, slows down cellular aging, study

An international group of scientists found out that taurine deficiency in people is associated with age-related diseases. Adding it to food extended the lives of mice, worms and monkeys and slowed aging at the cellular level.

Taurine is an amino acid that is found in all products of animal origin: in meat, fish, and milk. In addition, this same sulfonic acid is found in many energy drinks. By the way, because vegetarians do not eat meat, they have a taurine deficiency. At the same time, it is considered a conditionally irreplaceable substance for adults and completely irreplaceable for the body of children.

It is known that taurine is partly necessary for the health of bones, cardiovascular, immune and nervous systems. Last year, a team of Brazilian scientists also found that taurine plays a role in antiaging therapy. At the same time, there are few studies on this topic. Therefore, an international group of scientists, which included specialists from the universities of Columbia, Washington (USA), Munich (Germany), the Institute of Genetics and Medicine (Italy) and many other scientific organizations, decided to learn more about this issue and conducted a series of experiments. Their findings are presented in the journal Science.

First, scientists measured the dynamics of serum taurine concentration with age in humans and rhesus macaques. It turned out that it is constantly decreasing: on average, from 132.3 nanograms per milliliter in one-month-old mice to 40.2 in 56-week-old individuals. Fifteen-year-old macaques had taurine levels 85 percent lower than five-year-old primates. In people aged 60, this level was only a third of that in five-year-old children.

At the next stage, the scientists went directly to the experiment. One group of 14-week-old rodents was given 1,000 milligrams of taurine per kilogram of body weight every day for the rest of their lives, and the other group received a placebo. Food was not restricted for those and others. As a result, the mice that received taurine lived longer than those that were not given taurine: the lifespan of the first ones increased by 10-12 percent. The same was observed in Caenorhabditis elegans roundworms.

After that, the scientists added taurine to the mice's food, which also improved all the studied indicators of their health: with age, they gained less weight, better preserved bone tissue, muscle strength, endurance, and cognitive functions. Plus, they showed fewer signs of anxiety and depression. Something similar was observed in monkeys.

Fortunately, a similar effect was observed in humans: higher levels of taurine and hypotaurine in the blood were correlated with lower body mass index, blood glucose levels, incidence of type 2 diabetes, and levels of the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein (the most sensitive indicator of tissue damage in inflammation, necrosis and trauma).

In general, higher levels of taurine are associated with slower cellular aging. The authors of the study concluded that the deficiency of this substance can be called one of the driving factors of aging in multicellular animals.

Allies of the heart and sharp eyesight: these fruits must be eaten by people after 65 years of age

Peaches have been considered a symbol of happiness and longevity in China for centuries. The flowering period of the trees on which they grow is still solemnly celebrated, and their flowers announce virginity and fertility. In addition, they are very useful for health.

These fruits are inexpensive, easily available, and they go well with many sweet and savory dishes and are shown to the elderly, Przyslijprzepis said.

What are the benefits of peaches?

These fruits have much more to offer than just a delicious, refreshing pulp - they contain many nutrients and minerals, so eating them brings us many health benefits.

Fresh peaches are low-calorie (they have about 40 kcal per 100 grams, that is, 1 piece gives about 33.5 kcal) and are rich in valuable dietary fiber, which helps maintain a healthy body weight and has a positive effect on the work of our intestines.

Eating fruits that contain them in large quantities helps to protect us from cardiovascular diseases. That is why they should be consumed, especially after the age of 65, when the risk of heart problems increases.

Of all minerals, they contain the most potassium. Thanks to this, they have a very beneficial effect on our water-electrolyte balance and the work of the heart.

These juicy fruits contain many vitamins, and primarily beta-carotene (i.e. provitamin A) and vitamin C. This makes the use of peaches useful for our vision, helps to maintain a pleasant "peach" color of the skin and its youthful appearance. This fruit strengthens natural immunity and protects us from free radicals.

B vitamins, which are also abundant in peaches, help reduce tension and stress, have a calming and relaxing effect, so after a hard day, eating a couple or three sweet peaches will be a great idea.

In addition, niacitin, which is also present in ripe peaches, ensures the production of serotonin (the hormone of happiness). Hungarians call peaches "fruits of peace" for a reason.

What you need to know about peaches

Due to the high water content (90%), fresh peaches have a diuretic effect and help cleanse the body of toxins. Their consumption is also recommended for people struggling with rheumatic diseases. There is no fat and sodium in the "fruits of peace", which is an advantage for people with hypertension and high cholesterol.

These fruits are a valuable source of polyphenols, i.e. compounds classified as strong antioxidants.

Thanks to this, eating fresh peaches reduces the risk of oxidative stress.

To provide an adult with the necessary amount of polyphenols, you need to eat 2 large peaches every day. What is important, these delicious fruits are best eaten with the skin, because it contains the most useful substances.

Named foods that cannot be eaten with coffee: no croissants!

Those who like to drink coffee in a bite with cheese, cheesecakes or a cheese sandwich should know that caffeine impairs the absorption of calcium. Each cup of the drink removes approximately 3-5 mg of calcium at a daily rate of 1000 mg.

For most people, this effect is negligible. But if you drink more than 3 cups a day, or you have a calcium deficiency, then wait at least an hour after eating a meal with dairy products before drinking coffee.

Coffee with a croissant is a bad idea

People with cardiovascular diseases and overweight should not drink coffee with bakery products, especially those containing margarine. Such a combination seriously burdens the heart and raises the cholesterol level. If drinking coffee with pastries becomes a habit, the risk of developing diabetes, obesity, and hypertension will increase.

How harmful is coffee with a cigarette

Caffeine and nicotine are a difficult combination that burdens the heart, stomach and nervous system. Coffee together with a cigarette irritates the stomach lining and causes heartburn, increases the concentration of gastric juice and puts a lot of strain on the kidneys.

Why you can't combine coffee with alcohol and energy drinks

Doctors warn that coffee should not be drunk immediately after drinking alcohol and energy drinks. Moreover, it is not recommended to add alcohol to coffee. Such a combination seriously burdens the heart, worsens the quality of sleep and increases blood pressure, and can also increase the level of anxiety.

What is not digested with coffee

Tannins in coffee interfere with the absorption of zinc. Therefore, you should not drink food with red meat, poultry, nuts and legumes if you want to get the most benefit from them.

Also, caffeine interferes with the assimilation of non-heme iron, which is rich in nuts, peas, chickpeas, lentils, tofu and soy products.

How to lose weight in one day: 7 simple ways

We all have those days when we wake up and feel a little bloated. The face seems swollen, the legs are swollen, the stomach is bloated.

What to do if your face and body suddenly become puffy and swollen, says Womans World.

There are some fairly simple techniques that will allow you to lose about a size in one day.

How to get rid of a double chin

To get rid of a double chin, lie on your back and place thinly sliced slices of raw potato on your neck for 5 minutes. Research in the field of food and agricultural immunology confirms that the anti-inflammatory compounds in potatoes instantly strengthen sagging skin, and enzymes found in the flesh of potatoes begin to eliminate water retention within minutes.

How to remove swelling of fingers

The summer heat and humidity can make your fingers swell up so much that you can't put on (or take off!) your favorite rings. To relieve swelling, drink a drink infused with 5 slices of fresh ginger and a generous wedge of lemon. Citrus juice acts as a natural diuretic, and ginger's digestive acids quickly flush out toxins that clog the lymphatic system and cause swollen limbs.

How to relieve bloating caused by chronic constipation

Many gastrointestinal complaints are caused by inflammation in the gut and, like inflammation in any part of the body, this can cause bloating. Fortunately, an old remedy – compresses with castor oil – has been proven to relieve inflammation in a matter of minutes.

In one study of patients in nursing homes, researchers found that castor oil compresses significantly eased the discomfort caused by chronic constipation, even in those who had had it for more than ten years. Simply apply castor oil to your abdomen and cover with a warm, damp washcloth. Then wrap plastic wrap around your waist and relax for 10 minutes or more. The result: relief from gastrointestinal discomfort and a waist reduction of up to 5 cm.

How to relieve bloating caused by irritable bowel syndrome

Research published in Digestive Disease and Sciences provides further evidence that peppermint can significantly reduce bloating. Indeed, it is more effective in relieving unpleasant symptoms than antispasmodics, tricyclic antidepressants and fiber. One way it works is that compounds in peppermint leaves increase the production of bile in the intestines, while speeding up the stomach's ability to digest food before it can produce the gases in the stomach that are responsible for bloating. A study published in the journal Phytotherapy Research suggests that a sip of peppermint tea in the evening will help offset the side effects of a large meal and help you sleep longer and more deeply.

How to reduce bloating from gas

Simply chewing half a spoonful of cumin seeds after each meal can significantly relieve gas and associated bloating. A 2019 review of available research on cumin seeds found that the ancient folk remedy has extremely beneficial effects on the gastrointestinal tract thanks to its healing array of fatty acids as well as unique essential oils. The study also found some evidence that cumin seeds are beneficial for fat loss as well as water loss. It contains mild diuretic compounds and also destroys gas-forming intestinal yeast and bacteria.

How to get rid of swollen bones

If swollen ankles make it uncomfortable to walk in strappy sandals or enjoy a summer walk, try this: While reading a book on the sofa, stretch your toes at the beginning of each chapter, then flex your foot, repeating this 5 times.

A study published in the European Journal of Applied and Occupational Physiology suggests that this simple action removes stagnant fluid and produces better results than wearing compression socks.

How to reduce swelling of the whole body

When researchers in Brazil gave 900 mg of a wild herb known as horsetail to 36 healthy people and measured its diuretic effects, they found that it helped flush water without depleting the body by losing healthy electrolytes. Scientists suggest that the antioxidants and mineral salts in horsetail increase the rate of water recycling by the kidneys and thus help to get rid of swelling from head to toe.

But, of course, before trying any of these methods on yourself, you should consult your doctor, determine whether you have any contraindications, and find out whether the swelling and bloating of the abdomen is not a sign of the disease and does not need it is treatment.

Give it up before bed: experts have named the products that cause nightmares

Several studies have shown that eating certain foods before bed can seriously disrupt your sleep and cause you to experience unpleasant, vivid nightmares.

This is written by mirror.co.uk.

At the top of the list of foods that cause nightmares are cheese and milk.

You should also avoid sweet foods before resting, as they help heat the body.

A study published in Frontiers in Psychology looked at the relationship between diet and sleep. Of the 396 students who participated, 31% reported strange and disturbing dreams after eating cookies and brownies before bed.

In addition to being high in sugar, chocolate also contains caffeine, which can also interfere with sleep.

In third place were spicy or starchy foods, which can cause people to have vivid dreams due to their nutritional composition.

Next, this is bad news for junk food lovers, as it has been proven that fatty foods are the hardest for the body to digest. As a result, you may wake up more times during the night.

Finally, meat is another nightmare food because of the high amount of fat and protein it contains, making it difficult to break down.

When our bodies are hard at work digesting food, sleep is more likely to be interrupted, according to Dr. Charles Bay, M.D., a sleep medicine physician at the Cleveland Clinic Sleep Disorders Center.

He said: "Eating before bed can lead to more dreaming because late-night snacks increase metabolism and body temperature. Increased metabolism and temperature can lead to more brain activity, prompting more activity during rapid eye movement sleep, or REM." ".

You will be surprised. The expert told which side is more useful to sleep on

Nutritionist Ali Ramadan said that sleeping on the left side is better for health in general. In particular, because it contributes to the normalization of digestion.

Ramadan explained in his Tik Tok video that when we sleep on our left side, the stomach and gastric juices are not thrown into the esophagus.

It also reduces the pressure on the spine, thanks to which you can avoid problems with the musculoskeletal system.

He especially recommends this provision to pregnant women. According to the specialist, sleeping on the left side improves blood circulation between the heart, fetus, uterus and kidneys, and also reduces the load on the liver.

Also, sleeping on the left side is better for those who snore, have high blood pressure or suffer from acid reflux.

At the same time, it is better for people with diseases of the cardiovascular system to sleep on their right side.

Scientists have announced the risk of premature death due to loneliness

People who were socially isolated or often felt lonely were more likely to die earlier from any cause, including cancer.

Scientists from Harbin Medical University stated that loneliness and social isolation can significantly shorten life expectancy and cause many fatal diseases. Research by specialists was published in the journal Nature Human Behavior

Doctors studied data from 90 studies involving more than 2.2 million people from around the world. Patients who reported being socially isolated or often feeling alone were more likely to die earlier from any cause, including cancer.

According to experts, this is due to the fact that such people are less likely to follow a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. In addition, social isolation is associated with inflammation and weakening of the immune system. Such patients are less likely to receive high-quality and timely medical care due to a small number of social connections, the scientists clarified.

The research was conducted in high-income countries, so the results may not be correct for less wealthy countries, the study clarifies.

Experts advised single people to participate in social and community groups to strengthen a sense of belonging, and to avoid excessive use of social networks.

How to avoid a headache during a magnetic storm: six tips to try

If you suffer from a headache, the causes can be different, including it can be the result of a magnetic storm.

A headache during a magnetic storm is a known phenomenon for some people. While there's no foolproof way to completely avoid a headache, there are a few steps you can take to potentially reduce its frequency or intensity.

When to expect a magnetic storm?

On June 20, a flare was recorded on the Sun that could affect the Earth, it lasted about 44 minutes.

Scientists have recorded radio radiation of type II, its speed is 1027 km/h. It is worth noting that type II radiation is observed as a result of a flare on the Sun and indicates a coronal mass ejection.

Radioactive type IV radiation was also detected, it predicts an intense coronal emission and a solar radiation storm.

It is expected that on Earth it will be felt especially in North and Central America, as well as in parts of South America, Europe will also feel it, although not so strongly.

The nearest magnetic storm on Earth is expected on June 30, its consequences will be minor magnetic fluctuations.

How to reduce the impact of a magnetic storm on health

During magnetic storms, experts advise not to expose yourself to excessive stress.

Monitor the situation

Pay attention to weather forecasts and space weather reports that warn of upcoming magnetic storms. Knowing about potential storms can help you mentally prepare and take precautions.

Limit exposure

If you know that a magnetic storm is approaching, try to limit your time in nature. During a storm, stay indoors as much as possible, especially avoid areas with strong electromagnetic fields, such as electrical transformers or high-voltage power lines.

Create a calm environment

During a magnetic storm, it is important to minimize stress and create a calm environment. Learn relaxation techniques: such as deep breathing, meditation, or gentle stretching can all relieve some headache symptoms. Don't forget to drink water, as dehydration can make your headache worse, so during a magnetic storm it is very important not to forget a glass of water.

Use natural remedies

Some people find relief from headaches by using natural remedies. Applying a cold or warm compress to the head or neck, drinking herbal teas such as chamomile or peppermint, or inhaling essential oils such as lavender or peppermint can all help reduce headache discomfort.

Practice stress management

Stress can trigger or worsen headaches, so it is important to control its level. Engage in activities that help you relax and reduce stress, such as reading, listening to soothing music, taking a warm bath, or spending time in nature.

Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen can temporarily relieve headache symptoms. However, it is always advisable to consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking any medication.

Keep a headache diary

Track your headaches during magnetic storms to identify any patterns or triggers. This information can be helpful when discussing your symptoms with your doctor, who will be able to provide individualized advice or treatment options.

Remember that everyone's sensitivity to magnetic storms is different, and not all people experience headaches during these events. If the headache persists, worsens, or significantly affects your daily life, it is recommended to consult a doctor for a thorough examination and the appointment of appropriate treatment.

Five things to do in the evening to lose weight faster

There are many ways that everyone underestimates when they want to lose weight. In particular, they, together with the reduction of junk food and physical activity, help to quickly achieve the desired goal.

Breaking latest writes about it, informs with reference to RBC-Ukraine.

Experts named simple evening habits that will help you lose extra pounds faster.

Walk before bed

When losing weight, it is better to train in the morning. However, a brisk walk 2-3 hours before bedtime can help relieve stress, improve sleep, and regulate metabolism. People who are more active during the day are 65% more likely to sleep better.

Don't use your phone 30 minutes before going to bed

Using a smartphone or laptop in bed before going to sleep not only disrupts sleep, but also increases the risk of overnight weight gain due to a lack of the hormone melatonin.

Experts say that even the light glow of the gadget screen affects the metabolism, which leads to weight gain.

Proper sleep

Experts advise sleeping in a room with a temperature of 18 degrees. This will help burn 7% more calories during sleep than at a temperature of 22-23 degrees.

Eat dinner a few hours before bed

At this time, growth hormone, which promotes protein synthesis and increases muscle mass, reaches its maximum peak. Therefore, it is ideal to have dinner 2-3 hours before bedtime.

Eat foods that are rich in protein and low in fat, sodium, and carbohydrates. It can be white meat, fish, fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits.

You can also drink herbal tea with lemon balm, this will help get rid of bloating.

A healthy snack

If you can't sleep because of hunger, you can have a snack. Sweet fruits, dried fruits and nuts should be avoided. Replace it with vegetables, natural yogurt and cheese.

What mistakes prevent you from losing weight

We eat quickly

It is a well-known fact that the signal of satiety reaches the brain approximately 20-30 minutes after we have eaten. Therefore, you should not rush. By the time you feel full, you will eat 2-3 times more than you need. Eat slowly and get up from the table slightly hungry.

Harmful food at home

When a person is hungry, he starts snacking on everything he can get his hands on. And if you always have pastries, candies, chocolate, it's almost impossible to restrain yourself.

Weigh yourself every day

To monitor the dynamics of weight, it is not necessary to constantly weigh yourself. 1-2 weighings per week are enough. Weight depends on many reasons - on the amount of liquid drunk, menstrual cycle, weather.

Therefore, if you get on the scale too often, you can see a "plus" and start to worry.

The psychiatrist called an easy and pleasant way to become smarter

Superficial sleep improves cognitive abilities and motor memory.

Taking a 15- to 20-minute afternoon nap improves cognitive abilities and increases concentration, says psychiatrist and sleep expert Chester Wu. His opinion is quoted by the Daily Mail

According to the specialist, it was previously believed that the body restores physical and mental strength only in the deep phases of sleep, but new data prove that shallow sleep is no less beneficial. Wu said that in the state between sleep and wakefulness, all body functions slow down: heart rate decreases, body temperature and blood pressure drop. This helps free up the body's resources and direct them to recovery.

Wu added that superficial sleep plays a significant role in the process of forming motor memory - memories of performing physical tasks. In addition, according to him, a short daytime nap is a good way to improve mental abilities and concentration.

The psychiatrist noted that the rate of surface sleep for each person is individual. He explained that during the night the brain dips into all phases and stays in each of them as long as it needs. Therefore, for a full rest and well-being, Wu advises not to focus on certain phases, but to try to follow the regime and give the body enough time to recover.

The most effective way to lose weight has been determined

The study involved 77 obese people who were divided into three groups.

Scientists from the University of Illinois in Chicago (USA) determined that a calorie-counting diet is more effective in losing weight than intermittent fasting. The results of the study were published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine

The study involved 77 obese people who were divided into three groups. The first group followed a calorie-counting diet, the second - intermittent fasting, and the third - a control group - did not change their eating habits.

A year later, after comparing the participants' performance, the scientists found that those who counted calories lost more weight than others — they lost an average of 5.4 kilograms more than the control group. Intermittent fasting participants lost 4.6 kilograms more than those in the control group.

According to Shuhao Lin, a nutritionist and the lead author of the study, both methods of losing weight have approximately the same effectiveness, but the most popular among those who lose weight is the time-restricted diet. According to him, the simple requirements of intermittent fasting help to adhere to it for a long time without interruption.

Dentists will cry. In Japan, they invented a drug that grows teeth

Researchers at the Kitano Medical Research Institute discovered a protein called USAG-1 that limits the number of teeth. Then they found a drug that blocks the action of this protein.

Medicines for tooth restoration are intended for people who lack a full set of adult teeth due to congenital factors, informs UAINFO.org with reference to NV.ua.

The team has already tested their drug on mice, and it managed to grow both milk and permanent teeth.

It is planned to be tested on humans in 2024 - immediately after the preparation for the tests is completed. And the drug may become available to the general consumer as early as 2030.

"The idea of growing new teeth is the dream of every dentist. I worked on this when I was a graduate student. I was confident that I could do it,” said Katsu Takahashi, lead researcher and head of the Department of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery at Kitano Medical Research Institute Hospital in Osaka.

The drug is based on an antibody that blocks the work of USAG-1. Earlier, scientists found out that this protein is responsible for the absence of teeth in anodontia - a genetic disease in which one or more teeth never grow.

Scientists forced cancer cells to commit suicide by producing a bacterial toxin

Scientists from Tel Aviv University (TAU) for the first time managed to encode a bacteriological toxin into messenger RNA molecules, which delivered it to cancer cells and forced them to actually commit suicide.

The results of the study were published in the journal Theranostics, informs UAINFO.org with reference to Obozrevatel.

The revolutionary study was led by graduate student Yasmin Granot-Matok and professor Dan Peer, a pioneer in the development of RNA therapy, head of the nanomedicine laboratory at the School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research. Shmunis, as well as TAU's vice president for research and development.

"Our idea was to deliver safe mRNA molecules encoding a bacterial toxin directly to cancer cells, prompting them to produce a toxic protein that would later kill them. It's like putting a Trojan horse inside a cancer cell," – said Peer.

He noted that unlike chemotherapy, which kills both cancer and healthy cells, the new method has a clear target, so it does not cause unnecessary harm to the cancer patient.

First of all, scientists encoded the genetic information of a toxic protein produced by bacteria of the pseudo monad family into mRNA molecules. A similar technology was used in the creation of an mRNA vaccine against COVID-19, when the genetic information of the spike protein of COVID-19 was encoded into mRNA molecules.

Subsequently, the nanomedicine laboratory, which Peer directs, developed lipid nanoparticles in which mRNA molecules were packaged. These particles were also coated with antibodies to ensure that the "instructions" from the mRNA to produce the toxin would reach the cancer cells.

After that, the particles were injected into experimental mice suffering from skin cancer.

"When a cancer cell reads the 'instruction', it begins to produce a toxin as if it were a bacterium itself, and this self-produced toxin eventually kills it. Thus, with a simple injection into the tumor bed, we can force the cancer cells to 'end their lives' suicide" without damaging healthy cells," Peer said.

He also added that cancer cells will not be able to develop resistance to this technology, as is often the case with chemotherapy, because it will be enough for scientists to replace the natural toxin.

Tests showed that the very first injection of such a drug killed 44-60% of cancer cells.

According to the professor, using the Pseudomonas bacterium and testing it against melanoma cancer is just "a matter of convenience."

Peer suggests that most toxins produced by anaerobic bacteria, especially those that live in soil, could probably be used in this method.

"This is our 'recipe', and we know how to deliver it directly to the target cells with the help of our nanoparticles," explained the scientist.

"First Aid Kit of God". Named the most useful fruits that get rid of 99 diseases

Elderberries are a real source of health. In folk medicine, which has been used for centuries, it was said that this is "God's first-aid kit", because the fruits of this plant get rid of 99 different diseases.

Why should you add them to your daily menu, the Polish resource Przyslijprzepis told, informs UAINFO.org with reference to RBC-Ukraine.

How to make valuable vinegar from black elderberry?

Homemade elderberry vinegar can be prepared both from berries and from the remains after squeezing juice from them. It is great, especially for those who struggle with high blood pressure.

To prepare it, you should arm yourself not only with patience, but also with a large jar with a capacity of at least 2 liters, cheesecloth, a rubber band and a glass.

Ingredients:

4 cups of elderberry

4 tablespoons of honey

5 glasses of water

2 tablespoons of vinegar

apple

Carefully peel the elderberries and place them in water with baking soda. Then rinse them again. At this stage, you can squeeze the elderberry juice. Use the remaining fruits for this. Transfer them to a pre-sterilized glass jar. Then add honey mixed with water. Pour the resulting mixture over the berries.

Add apple pieces and vinegar. If the fruits protrude above the water level, press down with a glass or plate. Stir with a clean wooden spoon. Cover the jar with cheesecloth and secure with a rubber band. Then leave the mixture for about 3 weeks.

Watch and stir the mixture daily. If a thin film forms on top, don't worry. If the foam is moldy, everything must be poured out.

Pour the vinegar prepared in this way through a filter into clean bottles. You can store it in a cool and dark place - you don't need to put it in the refrigerator.

Who should not eat mango: what harm can an exotic fruit bring

Mango is an incredibly tasty exotic fruit. The high content of vitamins and valuable trace elements make it very useful for health. But it is worth knowing that not everyone can eat this fruit.

Avoid mangoes in case of digestive disorders and diarrhea (the laxative effect of the fruit will only aggravate the problem), diseases of the pancreas (pancreatitis), acute inflammation of the stomach (gastritis) or liver (hepatitis), writes Channel 24, informs UAINFO.org

Mango is not recommended to combine with alcohol. Fruit pulp makes it difficult to remove ethyl alcohol from the body, so it should not be combined with alcoholic beverages.

If the fruit is consumed in large quantities, stomach upset may occur. You will get abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhea. Doctors advise to eat only one mango a day.

Parents should pay attention to the fact that the fruit should not be given to children under 3 years of age. And although this fruit is soft, it is not recommended for babies at such a young age.

Interestingly, the fruit can harm people who have chronic gout. Mangoes can also be harmful if eaten unripe. Then the fruit can cause irritation of the stomach and respiratory tract.

People with diabetes and overweight (including obesity) should avoid dried fruits. Otherwise, you will face sharp sugar spikes.

A powerful tornado swept through China: there are dead and injured

Germany is grappling with a wave of espionage threats from Russia and China

Six suspected espionage suspects have been arrested in Germany this month alone, sparking a flood of accusations of Russian and Chinese espionage, the BBC reported on Sunday.

For the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, this proved particularly embarrassing, as its two main candidates in June's European elections found themselves in the crosshairs.

Assistant MEP Maximilian Kra, who heads the party's list, was arrested on suspicion of espionage for China. Jian Ge is accused of being an "employee of the Chinese secret service".

Prosecutors have also opened a preliminary investigation into the politician himself regarding alleged payments from pro-Russian and Chinese sources. Mr Kra denies any wrongdoing.

A few days earlier, Petro Bystron, the second name on the AdG list, denied allegations that he received money from the Voice of Europe website, which European intelligence says was a front for Russian intelligence.

But the accusations go far beyond the ADH. Two German citizens of Russian origin were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to sabotage Germany's military aid to Ukraine, and three Germans were detained on suspicion of planning to transfer advanced engine designs to Chinese intelligence.

"It's really unusual that three networks that were [allegedly] engaged in a kind of espionage for Russia and China were caught almost at the same time," said Noura Chalati, a research fellow at the Leibniz Center for the Contemporary East.

In all three cases of espionage, the efforts of Germany's domestic intelligence agency BfV are believed to have played a crucial role.

"Our security agencies ... have significantly increased their counterintelligence efforts," Interior Secretary Nancy Feiser said.

The arrests came shortly after Chancellor Olaf Scholz returned from wide-ranging talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

A few months earlier, a senior official of Germany's BND foreign intelligence service, Karsten L., had gone on trial on charges of passing classified information to the Russians in exchange for payments of around 400,000 euros.

A public crackdown on suspected espionage could be one way to send a signal to friends and foes alike that Berlin takes security seriously.

The BND and BfV said they do not comment on ongoing operations.

Washington threatened China because of its support for the Russian Federation

If the People's Republic of China does not begin to take steps to address the issues surrounding Russia's support, the United States will. This was stated by United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken after talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"During our discussions today, I made it clear that if China doesn't solve this problem, we will," said Blinken.

According to him, China will not succeed in establishing relations with Europe if it continues to support Russia.

Blinken clarified that ensuring transatlantic security is one of the most important interests of the United States.

For his part, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Wenbin, said that NATO bears direct responsibility for the war in Ukraine.

"The alliance should reflect on its role, stop shifting blame and effectively take practical steps to resolve the crisis politically," Wenbin said.

It should be noted that Anthony Blinken has been on an official visit to China since April 24.

Experts are convinced that the current activity of the United States in the Chinese direction and, in particular, Anthony Blinken's visit to the People's Republic of China are far from accidental, precisely "here and now" in the context of a full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war.

It will be recalled that the report of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) dated April 18 stated that the Russian defense industry uses spare parts for its Su aircraft manufactured in the United States and Japan. They are delivered from China, Turkey, Hong Kong and Hungary through intermediary companies.

On April 3, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the military support of the Russian Federation by North Korea and Iran entails "serious consequences for global security that NATO cannot ignore."

Police "cleared" US university campuses where pro-Palestinian protests took place

On Saturday, April 27, police arrested many participants in pro-Palestinian protests at US universities.

In particular, the police “cleared” the campus of Northeastern University in Boston of demonstrators.

Massachusetts State Police reported the arrest of 102 protesters. The official statement notes that not all of the detainees are students.

Those arrested will be charged with trespassing and disturbing public order.

Great Flood: Russia continues to go under water

 Another administrative district was flooded.

Russia continues to go under water due to floods, in particular, the situation is difficult in the Tyumen region. The Abatsky district was flooded there, and an emergency evacuation was announced in the village of Abatskoye and several other settlements.

About 8,000 people live in the village of Abatskoye, which is the administrative center of the district.

In the Abatsky district, the level of the Ishim River rose by 18 cm in six hours - to 1139 cm. The water continued to rise and soon near the Abatsky the water level in the river rose to 1204 cm, said the head of the district, Igor Vasiliev.

More than two dozen adjacent areas were flooded, the press service of the district administration reported.

Earlier it became known that in the Tyumen region the water level in the Ishim River rose by 140 centimeters per day - to 10.5 meters. This is a record figure over the past 27 years.

How to extend your life for years: scientists named a win-win way

Time is relentless and already after 30 years each of us begins to feel the influence of age and the body begins to change in the direction of aging. It is impossible to stop this process, but it is possible to slow it down and the method is quite simple and available to everyone.

As Chronicle Live writes, the British physician and TV presenter Michael Moseley talked about him in his Just One Thing podcast, in an episode dedicated to prolonging youth. According to him, this method is weight training, informs UAINFO.org with reference to Obozrevatel.

The need for such training arises from the fact that after 30 years, muscle mass begins to decrease. If you engage in its maintenance, it can rejuvenate the body at the cellular level and even give the brain an additional boost.

Dr. Moseley cited studies showing that 12 weeks of weight training can increase muscle mass by 10 percent and strength by 150 percent. "A review of dozens of studies on the effects of exercise on people over 50 found that both aerobic exercise and weight training are good for the brain, but studies have shown that weight training is especially good for memory and executive function, which improves things like, as a solution to problems," the presenter said.

He added that strength training has another positive effect - it improves sleep. For example, recent studies on the effects of physical activity have shown that those who engage in strength training sleep better and longer by almost 20 minutes each night. And, of course, such training helps in weight loss.

One of the studies that Dr. Moseley described in more detail was conducted at Harvard. Over 10,000 men participated in it over 12 years. In their experience, it was possible to establish that strength training burns belly fat better than cardio. And this is important, because it is the fat on the stomach that passively produces chemicals that can have a bad effect on blood sugar levels.

"Muscle cells, on the other hand, have a positive effect when you exercise, they soak up blood sugar like a sponge. In fact, one study found that for every 10 percent increase in your skeletal muscle, there was a 10 percent reduction in your risk of developing prediabetes ", the doctor added.

That is, along with improving the appearance, building muscle mass makes it possible to feel younger and even add years to life. So a recent analysis, which Moseley talked about, showed that 30 to 60 minutes of strength training per week reduces the risk of death from heart disease and cancer by up to 20 percent.

And what exactly happens to muscles as we get older, told podcast guest Abigail McKay, a muscle health researcher from the University of Copenhagen. According to her, the loss of muscle fibers occurs with age.

As the scientist said, over time these organs begin to lose connection with the nerves. And if this connection weakens due to the fact that the muscle fibers have never been used, then eventually it will not just weaken, but completely disappear and then such muscle fibers will die.

However, she added that it's never too late to start working on your body with weight training. "It doesn't matter how old you are, you're going to benefit, but I think what's also emerging now is that if you're active throughout your life, you slow down some of these negative changes that happen with age. You can even completely to prevent them," she shared.

However, Dr. Moseley urged those who have never exercised and now want to start to check with their doctor first. After all, due to certain health conditions, it may be necessary to start slowly, avoid some exercises and gradually increase their intensity.

The physiotherapist named a way to avoid acute back pain during sedentary work

The main secret to the absence of back pain while working while sitting is the correct posture.

To avoid acute back pain during sedentary work, you can do simple exercises, said physical therapist Sammy Margo. She told the Daily Mail about ways to prevent such pain, UAINFO.org informs.

According to Margo, the main secret to not having back pain while working while sitting is proper posture: when the ears, shoulders, hips and ankles are in line, the buttocks are pressed against the back of the chair, and the feet are flat on the floor.

If you have back pain, she explained, you should get up every half hour to an hour. At this time, you can do stretching exercises. To do this, you need to put your feet shoulder-width apart, turn your palms to the ceiling and slowly raise your arms, stretching them as much as possible. After that, you need to lower your hands to your sides and repeat the exercise three times.

"A good stretch several times a day is a surefire way to loosen tight muscles and increase flexibility," added Margo.

The effect is the same: scientists equated weekly training with daily training

Researchers have long established that 12 minutes of intensive sports per day reduces the probability of death from heart disease by 19-25%. However, many do not manage to carve out this time during the day. There is good news: it turns out that training only on weekends has the same effect.

It is known from scientific works that 150-300 minutes of sports per week (moderate and high intensity) reduce the probability of death from cardiovascular diseases by a quarter - and this is exactly the type of exercise recommended by the WHO. But this is 21-43 minutes a day, which is not suitable for all working people. However, experts from the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) found that the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke decreases even with a lower level of activity. For example, when training once or twice a week or only on weekends. Doctors published the study in The Journal of the American Medical Association, UAINFO.org informs.

A team of researchers from MGH studied data from 89,573 participants of the British Biobank, who for seven days wore accelerometers on their wrists, which record total physical activity, time spent on it and intensity. This is the largest analysis to examine whether "concentrated" exercise can provide the same benefits as more evenly distributed exercise, said lead author Dr. Shaan Khurshid.

In the study, a third of the participants were inactive - the duration of moderate and high-intensity training was less than 150 minutes per week; 42% of the subjects were included in the subgroup of "weekend fighters" — they reached or exceeded the minimum threshold of 150 minutes of physical activity per week, of which at least half were for one or two days. Another 24% of participants were regularly active and also played sports for at least 150 minutes a week, but trained daily.

After adjusting the obtained results, it turned out that the participants of both active subgroups are characterized by a reduced level of risk of cardiovascular diseases compared to inactive people. So, the probability of a heart attack in "weekend fighters" was 27% lower, and in those who regularly do sports - by 35%. For heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and stroke, the risk reductions were 38% and 36%, 22% and 19%, and 21% and 17%, respectively. It turns out that for these health problems, training only on weekends is even better.

Thus, physical activity once or twice a week has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system of people - even if not as much as daily exercise.

Doctors at the Massachusetts General Hospital plan to conduct additional studies to evaluate whether activities such as "weekend warriors" can have an effect on reducing the risk of other diseases.

The nutritionist listed foods that prevent you from getting rid of belly fat

Eating some foods makes it impossible to get rid of belly fat, even if you exercise and follow a healthy diet.

Nutritionist Melissa Rifkin believes so. She listed such products to the publication Eat This, Not That, informs UAINFO.org.

Rifkin said that fat accumulates due to eating the "wrong" type of calories and chronic stress, as well as when daily calorie intake exceeds expenditure.

In her opinion, pies, cakes and cookies can be included in the first category. She advises to exclude them from the diet first of all.

Products that are useful at first glance can also be harmful to the figure - for example, diet yogurt, muesli and cereal bars. Rifkin explained that their composition contains a lot of sugar, which prevents weight loss. For the same reason, she advises against eating canned fruit, beans and barbecue sauce.

“You'd be surprised at the amount of sugar in barbecue sauce. Two tablespoons can contain about 10 grams, and many people use much more when cooking," she says.

The nutritionist noted that the choice of dried fruits should be treated with caution, as they are sweet even by themselves, and their excessive consumption can harm the figure. In addition, they often contain added sugar. Rifkin advised to carefully read the list of ingredients on the package and not to buy dried fruits with sweeteners.

Daytime sleep can save you from diseases: scientists have determined when you should take a nap

Quality sleep is very important for a person's well-being and health. It helps restore strength and fill with energy.

Napping during the day is not a sign of laziness, it's just that your body needs additional rest, which has a positive effect on well-being. The Nottingham Post has published expert opinions on the matter.

A study published by the Manchester Evening News showed that regular sleep helps keep the brain "young" by slowing the rate at which it declines with age, and this can reduce the risk of developing dementia, reports the Observer, informs UAINFO.org.

According to sleep expert Hannah Shore, taking a nap in the morning can be a great way to improve focus, reaction time to fatigue and memory function.

"Between noon and 3:00 p.m. is the best time to feel refreshed without affecting your ability to fall asleep at night," she said.

Scientists from University College London found that people who napped regularly had brains that were five cubic centimeters larger on average than those who didn't.

This means that sleep likely has significant health benefits, including lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of stroke, as well as neurological disorders such as dementia.

Hannah Shor advises to make daytime sleep a habit.

"Lie on a blanket and make sure the lights are dimmed in your bedroom and try to fall asleep," she explained.

Not only quality sleep will help reduce the risk of developing dementia and other diseases, but also a healthy diet, a healthy weight, physical exercise, quitting smoking and drinking alcohol in recommended doses.

Scientists named eight habits that can increase life expectancy by 24 years

In the US, researchers have called exercise an effective way to prolong life.

As CNN reports, American researchers talked about healthy habits that can extend life for almost a quarter of a century, UAINFO.org informs.

Scientists have named the eight most effective habits for prolonging life, according to the results of the Million Veteran Program study presented at NUTRITION 2023, the flagship annual meeting of the American Nutrition Society.

Nearly 720,000 war veterans aged 40 to 99 took part in the study. Experts studied the lifestyle of each of the participants and found out which habits have a positive effect on life expectancy. According to their data, implementing these eight habits will extend the life of 24 years for those who have already turned 40, 21 years for those older than 50, and 18 years for people over 60.

The most effective way to prolong life is physical exercise. According to Xuan Mai Nguyen, the lead author of the study, the life expectancy of people who exercise regularly and a lot increases by 46 percent compared to those who do not do sports.

Second on the list in terms of life expectancy were the study participants who did not have an addiction to opioids - both powerful painkillers prescribed by a doctor and prohibited narcotic substances. According to the study, regular use of opioids reduces life expectancy by 34 percent. The so-called opioid crisis is now a public health emergency in the United States.

Quitting smoking also helps increase life expectancy. Experts note that people who do not smoke live longer than smokers by an average of 29 percent. They added that giving up this bad habit at any age brings great health benefits.

The researchers called the fourth way to live longer a stress-free life. According to scientists, today many residents of the United States suffer from stress, which negatively affects their health. However, according to them, each person can change his attitude to situations that cause internal tension and turn "bad" stress into "good". A stress-free life can increase life expectancy by 22 percent.

Another healthy habit, according to the results of the study, is a mainly plant-based diet. Such a diet consists mainly of plant products: vegetables, cereals, nuts and seeds, as well as legumes and fruits. Nguyen emphasized that such a diet does not involve a complete rejection of animal products. People who follow this diet live 21 percent longer.

Avoiding excessive alcohol consumption also has a beneficial effect on life expectancy. According to Nguyen, people who do not drink alcoholic beverages on a regular basis live 19 percent longer than those who regularly drink alcohol.

The researchers called a long sleep - at least seven hours a day - the seventh useful habit. Research has shown that a good night's sleep increases life expectancy by 18%.

Scientists also found that people who surround themselves with loved ones live five percent longer than those who are regularly alone. According to experts, social isolation, especially among the elderly, is becoming an increasingly common problem.

Experts have named the most harmful and dangerous type of cheese that everyone eats

Dairy products are useful and necessary for the body, according to experts. But it is worth knowing that not all dairy products can be eaten by everyone, especially those who are lactose intolerant. Among dairy products, cheeses occupy a special place, among which there are useful and harmful ones.

The editors of FoodOboz share useful information about which cheese is the most harmful and dangerous. The information was published in the publication "Healthline", informs UAINFO.org.

Experts do not advise eating processed cheese, but if you still use it for cooking, then you should not eat it in large quantities. According to experts, it is processed cheese that contains a lot of substances that negatively affect the work of the heart.

It is also very important to know that manufacturers add a lot of chemicals to store-bought processed cheese.

How much hard cheese can be eaten without harm to health per day

Experts claim that hard cheese is rich in calcium and vitamins, but at the same time it can be eaten no more than 40-50 grams per day, because an excess of calcium or sodium does not benefit the body.

According to experts, you can eat no more than 200-250 grams of sour milk cheese per day.

Scientists began testing "cancer pills" on humans

In the United States, human trials of so-called "anti-cancer pills" are being conducted, which are likely to "destroy" dense tumors.

This is reported by Sky News, informs UAINFO.org with reference to TSN.

A new anti-cancer drug AOH1996, which has been under development for 20 years, is currently undergoing preclinical trials. Previous studies of the drug have shown that it kills large cancerous tumors while leaving the body's healthy cells unaffected.

"Our anti-cancer pill is like a snowstorm that closes a key air hub and closes all flights only for planes carrying cancer cells," explained the drug's developer, Professor Linda Malkas.

Researchers have found that AOH1996 can inhibit the growth of cancerous tumors in animals, so they are now in the first phase of human clinical trials.

During preliminary studies of the drug, scientists found that it is effective in the treatment of breast, prostate, brain, ovarian, cervical, skin and lung cancers.

Scientists are hopeful that this breakthrough could help develop more targeted cancer drugs in the future.

Why a person wakes up at the same time at night: Chinese medicine explains

According to traditional Chinese medicine, each organ of the body has a specific hour or part of the day. It is during this period that his energy is at its peak. Chinese doctors also associate each part with certain emotions.

For example, if you wake up between 1 and 3 a.m. every night, according to Chinese medicine, you have liver problems. It is responsible not only for detoxification of the body, but also helps to process emotions at night. If the day before you ate something harmful or drank too much alcohol, you will definitely wake up during this period. Similarly, if you have a high level of tension and stress, you feel anger, TSN reports, informs UAINFO.org.

If you wake up at 3-5 in the morning, this indicates problems with the lungs. Chinese medicine indicates that disturbed sleep during this period means that it is difficult for your body to breathe properly and deeply. Imbalance is often manifested by cough, shortness of breath, asthma. It is often connected with an emotional factor — for example, you are sad or worried about a loss.

How not to wake up at night? It is necessary to perform relaxation exercises. Chinese medicine recommends focusing on breathing exercises. It is also worth keeping your body warm, then the lungs will be saturated with oxygen. If the problem is with emotions, you should talk to a close person whom you trust, or to a psychologist.

Scientists have named the only nut that will help you lose weight and get rid of diabetes

Few of us know that pecans (Brazil nuts) are a superfood. The researchers calculated that a person weighing about 59 kg should consume 22-25 pcs. of pecans a day to reap the health benefits.

This was the conclusion reached by researchers from the USA and Mexico, who conducted an experiment by introducing pecan nuts into the diet of mice, informs UAINFO.org with reference to RBC-Ukraine.

What did the experiment show?

The study was conducted by nutrition scientist Professor Luis Cisneros-Cevallos of Texas A&M University and his colleagues.

Scientists have found that nuts increase energy expenditure in rodents and reduce both dysbacteriosis (an imbalance of gut microbiota) and inflammation.

In fact, pecans appear to affect low-grade inflammation, which can lead to chronic inflammation and the development of a variety of common diseases.

According to the researchers, pecans should be considered a "superfood" that can be consumed alone, as an additional ingredient, or as part of a food supplement.

"Obesity and diabetes are on the rise in today's society around the world. The trend toward high-fat foods is one of the main causes, in addition to lifestyle and genetic predisposition. People are looking for healthier options, and we now believe that pecans are the a super product," said the professor.

What else are nuts useful for?

Of all the nuts, pecan is considered the most saturated with fat. Pecan is rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, and also contains trace elements: iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, zinc. Vitamins A and E are well absorbed from pecans because they are fat-soluble. They improve the condition of the skin, nails and hair.

The neurosurgeon listed habits to preserve youth and health

The best way to increase life expectancy is to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes, says neurosurgeon Brett Osborne.

He listed the daily habits to achieve this goal to Fox News, UAINFO.org informs.

Osborne advised to listen to the body, even if the doctor did not find alarming signs. So, according to him, people with diabetes, high blood pressure and a family history of strokes and heart attacks should regularly monitor the levels of lipids and cholesterol in the blood. He also recommended testing for C-reactive protein, which is often elevated in obese people and is a risk factor for coronary heart disease, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes. According to the doctor, information on the level of homocysteine, glycated hemoglobin and vitamin D3 is also useful for preventing senile diseases.

In addition, Osborne recommended regular intake of nutritional supplements to maintain youth and health. Among the drugs that help prevent oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, he named Omega-3 fatty acids, resveratrol, green tea extract, curcumin, vitamins B, C, E, D3, as well as magnesium and prebiotics.

"Supplements will not cure high blood sugar, blood pressure, gouty arthritis, and hypertension. Only you can do that. However, taking the right supplements can optimize your body's function so that the treatment brings maximum benefit," said Brett Osborne.

No less important habits for preserving youth, according to the neurosurgeon, are sports and proper nutrition. He noted that physical activity helps to keep not only the body in good shape, but also the brain, as connections between neurons are formed during exercise.

"It helps prevent diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's," Osborne explained.

He also advised eating more vegetables and monitoring the glycemic level of foods to control sugar intake.

Scientists have named a spice that will help burn fat and speed up metabolism

If the results of a new study conducted by Texas A&M University and the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition in Mexico are correct, we may want to start adding more cardamom to our diet. Newsweek writes about it, UNIAN reports, UAINFO.org informs.

"We found that this little spice can burn calories and maintain body weight while increasing appetite and food intake," said Luis Cisneros-Cevallos, professor of horticulture and food sciences at Texas A&M University.

In a study published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (International Journal of Molecular Sciences), scientists fed mice a diet containing 0, 3, 6 or 12 percent cardamom seeds for 14 weeks. In the experiment, mice fed a cardamom-rich diet gained less weight than the control group, despite eating slightly more. This happened due to a decrease in fat content in the body, as well as an increase in muscle mass.

At the biochemical level, cardamom consumption increased the breakdown of fats and reduced the size of fat deposits, preventing the accumulation of fat in tissues. In addition, it was found that it increases the concentration of mitochondria - the "power stations" of the cell that produce energy - in muscle tissues and the liver. This increases the total energy expenditure of the cell.

The researchers found that these effects were caused by changes in the brain that control appetite, energy expenditure and fat storage.

At the same time, the authors of the study say that the average adult needs to consume at least eight to ten cardamom pods every day, which is a lot. Also, this study was only done on mice.
