France has increased solar capacity

In France, 3.2 GW of solar capacity was installed in 2023, which increased the total capacity of SES to 20 GW. The country uses a regional approach in installing SPPs, which improves local energy sustainability and contributes to national energy security and independence, EV Wind reports.

It is noted that 19.3 GW of SPPs are located on the mainland of France, and the rest - in Corsica and other territories. In 2023, the addition of new capacity increased significantly, with 2.68 GW installed in the country in 2022, and 2.57 GW in 2021.

"France reaching the milestone of 20 GW of solar capacity is not just a number, it is the country's firm commitment to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to more sustainable energy in the future," the article emphasized.

EV Wind said the total capacity of solar projects awaiting grid connection also increased significantly to 22.4 GW, of which 5.8 GW have pre-connection agreements.

The significant backlog of solar projects awaiting grid connection reflects growing interest and investment in solar energy, as well as the need for improved grid capacity and flexibility, it said.
