Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas believes that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is trying to intimidate Western societies in order to restrain their actions, but in fact he himself is afraid of war with NATO countries.
"He has been threatening nuclear war for a long time. But these are just words. He is very good at sowing fear in our societies. He listens to what we fear, and if we fear nuclear war, he amplifies those fears. After that, our public wants to restrain their actions," Kallas said in an interview with the BBC, Ukrinform reports.
"If we are afraid, then we begin to restrain ourselves. And this is what Putin wants to achieve," Kallas believes.
"We also have to think about what Putin is afraid of. And he is actually afraid of war with NATO countries. He doesn't want that. Of course, we don't want that either," she added.
