The British cargo ship Rubymar sank in the southern part of the Red Sea on the evening of March 1: the Yemeni Houthis attacked it last month
This is reported by Reuters, referring to the statement of the internationally recognized government of Yemen.
It is noted that if the sinking of the ship is confirmed, it will be the first case of the loss of a ship since the beginning of Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in November 2023.
Earlier this week, Yemeni officials visited the Rubymar and reported that the vessel was flooded and could go to the bottom within days. Its sinking could cause an environmental disaster, because the ship was transporting 41 tons of fertilizers. In addition, the US military previously said that the attack significantly damaged the ship, as a result of which a 29-kilometer oil slick appeared in the sea.
