They were preparing terrorist attacks: two Russian spies were detained in Germany

Alleged Russian agents who were preparing a series of terrorist attacks were arrested in the German city of Bayreuth.

As BILD reports, Federal Prosecutor General Jens Rommel has approved the arrest of two people suspected of spying for the Russian Federation. According to the media, it is assumed that the suspects tried to gather information about American military bases on the territory of Germany, and also prepared attacks on military transport routes in the country.

"The main accused is Dieter S., a 39-year-old Russian of German origin. He is accused of cooperation with Russian special services, agent activities for the purpose of sabotage and "creating a security threat" to military facilities," the message reads.

According to the investigation, the suspect, in particular, maintained contact with an employee of one of the special services of the Russian Federation, with whom he developed plans for sabotage in Germany from October 2023.

"According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, Dieter S. agreed to carry out explosions and arson of military infrastructure and industrial facilities in Germany. He was already preparing for this and gathering information about potential targets, including US military facilities," BILD notes.

The second figure is also a Russian of German origin, 37-year-old Oleksandr Y. The General Prosecutor's Office also accuses him of acting as an agent of the Russian special services: he maintained contact with Dieter at least since March 2024. Both men lived in the city of Bayreuth in Bavaria.

According to the investigation, the suspects were going to prevent the delivery of military aid from Germany to Ukraine.

As BILD learned, in the vicinity of Bayreuth, law enforcement officers searched two houses, where the suspects were detained. According to the publication, Dieter, acting in the interests of the Russian special services, filmed secret military facilities. According to detailed information, the saboteur plans to explode and set fire to military infrastructure and industrial facilities on the territory of Germany. He spied on US military facilities in Grafenwehr (Bavaria), where the US Army trains Ukrainian soldiers.

Dieter was sent under arrest today, the court session regarding the choice of preventive measure for Oleksandr will be held on April 19.

According to BILD, after the scandalous detention, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbok summoned the Russian ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Our security agencies prevented possible attacks that could have been aimed at our military aid to Ukraine. We will continue to provide support to Ukraine and will not allow ourselves to be intimidated," said the country's Minister of Internal Affairs, Nancy Feather.
