The long-suffering station has been under construction since 1995 and had many problems before launch
During a drone strike on Russian Mordovia on April 11, the newest "Container" radar could have been destroyed. Now the West fears that this may be perceived by the Kremlin as a crossing of "red lines" regarding the use of nuclear weapons.
This is reported by Newsweek. The publication notes that the day before, there was a report in the Ukrainian media that UAVs attacked the 590th separate radio technical center of military unit 84680 in the city of Kovylkino, which is almost 600 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
The over-the-horizon radar station 29B6 "Container" is located at this place, which is part of the Russian intelligence and early warning network, including the use of ballistic weapons.
Although the extent of the damage has not been determined at this time, the publication suggested that the damage to this system falls under one of the conditions that the Russians have defined as the limit for the possibility of using nuclear weapons.
It is noted that the decree of the Russian dictator from 2020 states that the use of nuclear weapons can lead to "the influence of the enemy on critically important state or military facilities of the Russian Federation, the failure of which will lead to the disruption of the actions of nuclear forces in response."
Little is known about the "Container" radar. Work on this station was completed in 2012, and it was launched only in 2019. According to propagandists, it is able to see flying objects at a distance of 2,000-2,800 kilometers, but has a blind zone of 900 km, which is why it was placed so far from the border.
