Danish scientists named sports that prolong life

 The study showed a special benefit of team sports for longevity.

Scientists from Denmark conducted a study to determine which sports could potentially contribute to prolonging life. The results of the study turned out to be unexpected and interesting, writes the German publication Focus, informs UAINFO.org.

Danish researchers followed a group of 8,500 adults for 25 years, carefully studying their lifestyle, habits and general health. They found that team sports are the clear winners in terms of longevity:

Tennis: the leading sport that contributes to an average life extension of 9.7 years.

Badminton: Potentially increases life expectancy by 6.2 years.

Soccer: Fans of this game can enjoy an extra 4.7 years of life.

In addition to team sports, researchers also looked at the impact of individual sports on life expectancy:

Swimming: Associated with an extra 3.4 years of life.

Running: Extends life by 3.2 years.

Gymnastics: adds 3.1 years to life expectancy.

Scientists have offered insight into why team sports have such a marked effect on life expectancy. They highlight the following factors:

interaction with other people: team sports strengthen social bonds and evoke emotions, which leads to increased happiness and relaxation after playing sports;

a sense of rivalry: this contributes to a sense of the vitality of youth.

The research highlights the importance of considering individual factors such as age and fitness when choosing a sport, as different activities may suit different people depending on their particular circumstances.
