Poland and the Baltic countries began to fight the supply of cars to Russia in circumvention of sanctions.
It is noted that Poland and the Baltic countries have stopped freely allowing cars worth more than 50,000 euros or with an engine of more than 1.9 liters into the Eurasian Union.
The supply of such machines is prohibited by sanctions, and now written permission from the manufacturer is required for their export.
Also, Polish customs officers do not allow the import of expensive cars and cars with an engine of 2 liters or more into Belarus and transit through it to other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, such as Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
“Polish customs officers now require a document from the manufacturer with permission to export the car from the European Union and confirmation that the final recipient of the car is outside Russia, and that exporting the car will not violate sanctions,” the material says.
What about the supply of cars from the USA?
The publication spoke with a customs broker and he said that this started on Friday evening
“Apparently, Lithuania introduced the same ban - we already have three cars stuck on the border with Belarus, and this is very painful, because cars bought at US auctions come to Klaipeda,” the broker said.
He clarified that the cars entered Russia bypassing sanctions through countries from the Customs Union. However, there is still no clarity regarding cars from the USA; perhaps they will be allowed through further.
The publication adds that the new restriction will complicate the import of European cars to Russia. They will have to be supplied in a more complex workaround, which will again increase their price.
